Is Stretching Enough?
06 August 2012
This is quite a common seen practice now with regards injuries but the real question is, is it enough on it’s own?
The short answer is no. But this all depends on the severity of the injury. With less extreme injuries, stretching can be very good on its own and is a good way for you to help heal the injury yourself.
With more severe injuries, I have found it needs hands on massage work to heal properly. I’ve seen many patients who have stretched and done exercises and the injury has got so far or just hasn’t improved at all.
Also we have to be careful with stretches. These shouldn’t be sore when we do them. The stretch should feel good or just feel like a strong pull at most.
With minor injuries, try some gentle stretches and see how it goes. But I would always advise to go see a soft tissue therapist or other professional with your injury.
