Acute Inflammation

Acute Inflammation

Most of us have heard the term inflammation. That the area is inflamed but what does that mean exactly?

Inflammation is our bodies attempt at trying to heal an injured area.

There are varying stages of inflammation. We will talk about Acute Inflammation. At its worse, it will happen immediately as soon as an injury happens.

The area may be red.
It may have a burning feeling.
It will be very painful & even a slight touch will be very sore.
Swelling can also occur.
There will be a loss of mobility with the affected area.

If you have an inflamed injury, what do you do about it?

R.I.C.E = Rest it, Ice it, Compress it, Elevate it.

The important key here is rest and cooling the area. Many athletes will keep ice packs or ice gel handy for such injuries.
The majority of inflamed injuries will calm after a couple of days but this is the most important time to rest and ice the area to speed the process up.
